Pacific Pavingstone Details 5,000 Year History of Interlocking Pavers

10/07/2008

LOS ANGELES, CA – October 7, 2008: Pacific Pavingstone Inc (http://www.pacificpavingstone.com), one of the largest paving stone driveway, patio, pool deck and walkway design and installation companies in Southern California today brought attention to one of its more intriguing online articles, entitle: “Interlocking Paving Stones – The Use of Pavers” (http://pacificpavingstone.com/paving-stone.html). The article explains the history of paving stones and their crucial role in the expansion of Western Civilization. After all, it was the Romans who made wide use of paving stones to pave their roads throughout the empire. This in turn, encouraged trade and the exchange of cultures. But even before the grandeur of Rome, the ancient Minoans on the Mediterranean isle of Crete were the first recorded artisans to use paving stones on their roads. Some of their paving stones, first laid in 3,000 B.C., have survived to this day. So there is a long and distinguished history associated with paving stones that Pacific Pavingstone is proud to shed light on. And while today paving stones aren’t necessarily chipped from Mediterranean rock, they are still placed and positioned by hand, and still laid in a foundation of sand to ensure flexibility and to prevent cracking. When it comes to a paving stone driveway, pool deck, walkway or patio – the same time-honored techniques are still used as they were first perfected 5,000 years ago.  Of course, today, there have been many advances and technological breakthroughs which allow a driveway, pool deck or patio to be laid in record time while maintaining the long lasting and robust characteristics of the ancient paving stones. Also, with advances in computer assisted design, we can create shapes and designs that would have boggled the ancient Romans and Greeks. Yet their paving stone legacy can be seen all across Southern California in homes that have commissioned Pacific Pavingstone to design and build custom pool decks and patios, and outstanding driveways and walkways. No doubt they would be proud. Remember the saying, “All roads lead to Rome.” Well remember, too, that those roads were laid with paving stones!

Terry Morrill, founder and CEO of Pacific Pavingstone, continues, “Few know the long history that civilization has enjoyed with paving stones. We like to remind people that they’re not just getting a beautiful new driveway, pool deck or patio, but a little slice of history right on their front lawn!” Terry Morrill also owns California Waterscapes (http://www.californiawaterscapes.com), which designs and installs ponds, streams and waterfalls around the Los Angeles area. Pacific Pavingstone has twice been included on the Inc 500 list of fastest growing companies, and this year was included on the Inc 5000 list and recently won The Angie’s List Award for Superior Service.
